Southampton
University Wind Orchestra was formed eight years ago
by woodwind and brass players of the University of Southampton.
Their aim was to create a band that performed challenging wind
orchestra repertoire to a high standard, and that provided playing
opportunities within the University that were of a higher standard
that the Concert Band and included more woodwind and brass players
than the Symphony Orchestra.
Today
the orchestra has approximately fifty members and performs at least
three concerts a year. Members are auditioned at the start of the
academic year. The orchestra is run by a committee of students currently
attending the University who work closely with conductor Adam Swayne,
to select a challenging and enjoyable repertoire.
